What are these workshops, you ask? These are tutorials taught by community members FOR community members. At these booths, you can sign up to learn relevant creative tips and tricks for things like bike maintenance, indoor composting, screen printing (tees and posters), button making, and more!
Bike Maintenance: Ben Johnson has biked in Chicago, Pittsburgh, and his hometown of Greenford, Ohio. Learn tips and tricks from an amateur cyclist who tells it like it is.
Indoor Composting: Windy City Harvest and Chicago Center for Green Technology student Will Sauceda has been experimenting with verma composting (using worms, newspaper, and plastic tubs to compost indoors) and will teach you simple ways to get started on this environmentally sound project.
Screen Printing: Matthew Ginsberg teaches screen printing at the Lillstreet Art Center in Chicago and is here to show you the basics with help of SAIC student Karissa Talanian. Together they'll explain what you need to DIY some rad t-shirts and posters, and the differences of printing on fabrics vs. paper.
Button Making: The Busy Beaver Button Co. is a local business located in the Logan Square neighborhood of Chicago and has a diverse clientele from Missy Elliot to Threadless to even Burger King, while still being active members of the Chicago community supporting local high schools, the Chicago Public Libary, and more. These fantastic button-iers will show you the materials necessary to make a button, mass produce, and you'll walk away with a button unique to the inaugural Circus event!
